Mosaic Art

As part of our Te Araroa Inquiry we researched mosaic patterns.  Here are some designs we created while Mr Piper was relieving in our class...he's a cool teacher.

Matariki Art

During Matariki we created some art based on the Maori Myth Tamarereti and the Stars.
We used dye resistant crayons to create our pictures.

Here are our pictures of Ranginui, God of the sky, with some of the stars.

Learning Portfolios

It's the end of Term 2 which means we're half way through the year.
Pheww! ...and... WOW!  That's gone fast!

Students will be taking their Learning Portfolios home for their parents to read during the school holidays.
To encourage our families to do this we are running a small competition.

The students have created a word search based on information in their Learning Portfolios.

Parents will be encouraged to complete this and return this and their child's Learning Portfolio back to school in the first week of Term 3.

FIRST word search and Learning Portfolio back gets a prize.

ALL word searches and Learning Portfolio's back in the FIRST WEEK go in a draw for another prize.

I wonder who will win??????

So... the first person to bring back their completed word search and Learning Portfolio was...
CHARLOTTE
Congratulations Charlotte!

Tamarereti-Maori Myth

We are retelling a well known Maori Myth about Tamarereti creating the night sky.  Here is the video we watch before starting our writing:

We created crayon resistant art of Ranginui (God of the Sky) and the stars.  Cameron and Izaack show us how what happens when dye is applied to their crayon pictures.

We also tested our knowledge of this story by playing Kahoot.  Mrs Stevens introduced this play game to us.  Here is our first go at it...
Thanks for showing us this fun game Mrs Stevens!!!

Next, we tried making our own Kahoot game.  This is how it went...

You can do this at home too.
To play this fun game go to this link:

Leave us a comment telling us how you did.

Simple Machines

This term we have been learning about simple and compound machines.  We spent a lot of time researching the different types of simple machines there are and how they make our lives easier.  Next we explored compound machines.  We made display boards and models of both simple and compound machines showing our learning.

Click on the link below to see each students Simple Machines Learning Journey:

Here are some examples or our work:

Writing

Every morning we begin our school day with handwriting.  We practice forming our letters neatly and accurately.  We are also beginning to link our letters.

Pajama Party

Pajama's and onesies are great!  They're warm, comfortable and fun to wear.  They're even better when worn to school for a Pajama Party!  Here's our Pajama Party from Term 1.
